Our Story

Founded by Brenda Estrada, an optician with more than three decades of experience in vision care. 

K+G Optical curators was founded and named in honor of her parents Dr. Franklin “Ken” and Dr. Milagros “Grace” Estrada who are both optometrists. 

Dr. Ken worked in the optical clinics that they owned together and also in other countries. He was also one of the doctors that participated in contact lens research and development held in the Philippines when contact lenses were just being developed by a European company. Dr. Grace was an Optometry Professor in a well-known optometry school in the Philippines while she also helped run their optical clinics. Both of them gave back to the community by giving free eye exams every year for public schools and did medical missions. When they moved to the US from the Philippines, they left their optical clinics. In the States, they could not practice as doctors of optometry without going back to school as reciprocation is not allowed for doctors from different countries. Fortunately, they were able to continue work in their field, just in a different position as opticians and ophthalmology techs.

It was their dream for Brenda to own her own optical business and she is now making that dream come true by carrying on their legacy. 

Brenda has been in the vision care field for more than 30 years. She graduated in NY with a degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing and has been an optician since then. Brenda has also worked with different positions in eyecare, as an ophthalmic technician and manager for ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticals. Brenda loves styling clients as much as helping them see better while also bringing out their fun personality with their glasses.  Brenda has both styled and made glasses for celebrities, as well as serving as a frame stylist for photo shoot/events. She also consults and fits brides and grooms eyeglasses for their weddings (Mothers of the Brides too!). 

K+G Optical Curators was founded to provide a curated optical service for individuals who have busy schedules and want quality eyewear that fits their style, personality and vision needs. People who want quality one-on-one service by a professional optician. K+G Optical Curators are available to “bring the optical” to preferred client’s home, office or at K+G Optical Curators Pop-up Experience. Throughout the years, the reason people have put off getting eyeglasses is either because they have no time, they cannot get to an optical, or there's usually a long wait time. And sometimes they are fitted by inexperienced sales people, not opticians. Other times, the frame selections are too basic! That’s where our expertise in optical and style come in. 

Most of the brands are carefully picked from POC, Women, Doctor/Optician designed and owned independent companies with story and personality. We also carry frames that are made eco-friendly.

Styles range from classic to funky. Each company is carefully selected for our clients who want quality and do not wear mainstream brands.

Some of our top-tier brands are only available for our in-person curated services, per brand agreement with K+G Optical Curators.
